Bible Reading Group

What is it?

For members of Panania Anglican Church to encourage bible reading using a virtual group to read a bible passage five days a week and making a comment via a smartphone app.

Why?

To try to be more regular in reading the bible in 2022. The PAC Bible Reading Group is one way for us to read the bible regularly and be helped as we see comments from others reading the same passages. This has been helpful for many participants and it has been a privilege to belong to such a group.

Which Books?

The books selected for Term 2 are the prophets Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi. 1-3 John will then be studied also.

The last three books of the Old Testament – Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi – take us past the exile to the time when the Jews were repatriated: the time of Ezra and Nehemiah.

Haggai is a little book with permanent relevance, its basic concerns are with priorities.

Zechariah contains prophetic messages and visions of judgement and restoration. The Gospels quote Zechariah more than any other prophet in their narratives of Jesus’ last days, reflecting on Jesus as the Messiah. Zechariah, with Ezekiel, also has a major influence on the book of revelation.

Malachi brings God’s message to a downcast people who have grown careless of him.

1 John is an address written to warn the readers against false teaching, calling on them to hold to the truth. 2 John is a brief letter with a similar theme, addressed to a particular church. 3 John is a personal note to a friend about a church leader who has become a real problem in the church.

When?

Commencing Monday, 26 April 2022 for 10 weeks, ~45 readings. The passages are listed below.

How?

Read the passage listed daily (five each week) and comment using your smartphone. If you miss a day don’t worry because you can catch up on the weekends.

We will be using the Signal – Private Messenger app. It is available at your app store and is free.

I will be setting up a dedicated group in Signal. Only those participating in the group will be able to read the comments.

Comments will be made using the Swedish Method. Add a comment each day, which could be one or all of the following:

💡 Chapter: _ Verse: _ I am impacted by… because …

❓ Chapter: _ Verse: _ A question I have is ...

➡ Chapter: _ Verse: _ I would like to apply in my life by ….. Pray for me.

Please include the chapter and verse of the passage you are commenting on. Each day we may be commenting on different passages and this will make it easier for us to follow.

Please do not question or make any comments about other people’s contributions, or answer their questions in the group. All members of the group should regularly contribute comments. Prayer for the group and any suggestions are welcome.
